CHANGE OF DATE

UPDATE:
Due to the unfinished construction of the play yard which means less play space for families, we have decided to POSTPONE our 2nd Annual Family Childcare B-B-Q.  Instead of a B-B-Q we will instead have a pot luck some time in October.  We will let you all know within a couple of weeks.  I am so sorry for the inconvenience and hope you all can make it in October!
Thanks,
Wendy and Jen

Hi everyone,

We have been very busy this summer and now that it is winding down, we have some upcoming things that we would like to both inform you of as well as remind you about.

First of all, Monday September 1st is Labor Day and we will be closed.

Also, Mother Goose Times curriculum will begin again the first week of September!  After experimenting with it last year, we decided that since the older toddlers and preschoolers had such a blast with it, it is was worth the investment again this year.

Next, we are having our second annual Family Childcare B-B-Q on Sunday, September 14th beginning at 3PM and everyone is welcome!  We will provide hotdogs, hamburgers, buns, condiments and bottled water,  and we are asking that everyone bring their families favorite NUT FREE side dish and anything else they would like.  If the weather is warm enough, we have a sprinkler, so bring a bathing suit and towel for your child(ren).  Current, future and past families are welcome to join us!

Third, As you know, we have been building a shade structure in the playground.  We have hired a carpenter that will be coming on September 20th and 21st.  We are looking for volunteers to come on one or both days from 8 - 4 or 5; any amount of time you can pop in is helpful, but please sign up so we have an idea of the size of the crew for the carpenter...who is Samantha Breen's father...grandfather to Raegan, Colin & Jace.  (NO experience is necessary, there is a job for everyone) There is a sign up sheet on the board. We will provide lunch for those here at that time and a plentiful supply of ice cold bottled water for the day. We have not determined the date yet, but in appreciation of your volunteering, we will choose a Friday to stay open late for you to be able to have a date night, all you need to bring is jammies so bed time is easier for you! Instead of picking up your child after work, you can leave him/her/them until after your date!  An important thing to remember, is that due to safety concerns concerning the tools , ladders and other hazards, being used we are not letting kids come on that day.

Don't forget to pay for Mr. Dave!

Finally, it was nice to see Raegan, Colin, Jacob & Matty this month!  It was also a pleasure for all of the children to meet Jace.  To all of you...don't be strangers!

SAVE THE DATE:
As we have told most of you, on Wednesday October 8th we will be closed for a personal day.  This is when the judge has asked for Jen to reappear in court for modification of Laura's medical custody so that she can make medical decisions that she feels are necessary for her daughter.

Thank you,
Jen and Wendy

January Happenings!

General updates

Can you believe we are already halfway through January?  This year has started off very busy and among all the craziness, we wanted to remind you of a few things.  First of all, with all these colds, we want to remind you to make sure your child is getting enough sleep at night, allowing an earlier bed time so they can get enough rest.  We have had a few children yawning at breakfast.

Our next reminder is about clothes.  We know the weather is warmer on some days and chillier on others, so please be mindful of this.  The ideal clothing during the winter for the temerature we keep our house at, is long pants and a long sleeve shirt.  The bulkier sweatshirts are great for the car rides, but are too bulky for during the other parts of the day because the are getting in food and paint.  We dance and do other large motor activities and the children get warm, but with a short sleeve shirt they get chilly when they take off the sweatshirt.  If your child comes in one, please make sure they have a long sleeve shirt on under it.....NOT a short sleeve shirt.  Thank you.

Third, we need our paperwork back.  Some of you have not returned the paperwork, therefore, you have not recieved the vacations and holidays list.  We have a vacation coming up, so please see Wendy with your finished paperwork.  If you have lost it or need a new holidays list, please see Wendy.  One of the reminders of that was that there is a rate increase beginniing February 10th, 2014.  The other one was about taxes.  We need to ensure that our numbers match for what you paid last year, so please contact Wendy this week.  Thank you.

Last but not least, when we ask for diapers, we would like an unopened package.  It is the easiest way for us to store diapers and when they are already opened, we need to ask for them sooner.  We really do not want to be pains, so please help us help you.

Vacations and Holidays
Monday, January 20th (this upcoming Monday)

  Monday, February 17th (Presidents Day)

Friday, February 28 through Friday, Febraury 7th (Jen has a special offer for the first 6 people to sign up, so please see her if you absolutely cannot find care for your child during that week)

Thank you,
Wendy and Jen

Winter Happenings!

There are many things we need to cover in this blog today…
So…let’s get started!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!  Jen and I wanted to take a moment to thank you for being a part of our childcare family.  We love each and every one of your children and are proud of each of their individual accomplishments throughout the year.  We know that you put your trust and faith in us and take that very seriously.

First, we would like to make sure that each child is ready for the weather. This means that we would like you to check your child’s box for long pants, long sleeve shirts and a sweatshirt for their hook if you feel they need it. Also, if your child wears boots to childcare, please make sure they have slippers or sneakers to wear indoors.  Be especially mindful of the sizing of everything as your children are growing like weeds!

We would also like to welcome Arianna and her family to our group of friends.  She will be attending on Monday, Thursday & Friday each week. Arianna is 2 years old and is a delightful child who is constantly observing the other children.  She is now talking to the other children and playing freely with them.  She has been attending since Christmas week and is enjoying her experience.  All of the children have welcomed her and are happy to see her each day that she is here.  Her parents’ names are Merrisa and Chris.  Please introduce yourself if you see them.

Next, we would like to welcome Summer and her family, who will begin next week on January 6th.  Her days will be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. She is three months old and is a darling little girl.  We are all very excited about her arrival.  Mom and Dad are Amy and Adam.  Again, introduce yourself when you see them.

Along with our new arrivals, we will have one child who will have her last day on February 7th.  We are very sad to see this family leave.  Ella has been here all of her three years and before her we had Jackson from three months of age until he entered kindergarten.  All totaled, we have had the joy of caring for this wonderful family for nearly 7 years.  Although it is sad to see them move on, it is the best decision for their family.  Mom’s workplace has changed making it difficult for drop off and pick up, because she has to go beyond work each day to childcare, then go back to work.  It was a very difficult decision for Elissa and Jesse to make.  We will miss you so much! We know that Ella will thrive in her new school and we will now be able to visit with them as friends!

Congratulations to Julie on her new job!!!  Julie’s old job was so demanding of her time…even in some evenings!  Now Avery and Boden will have mommy home a bit more and mom will be able to have some more quality time with her babies.

Congratulations to Melissa, Allin, Myles and Addison!  They are moving to Marlborough these next couple of weeks!  Enjoy your new home.  The children will stay here with us.

At this point, most of you have received a renewal packet which was handed out this week.  When you return this packet, we will hand out our vacations and holiday schedule for the New Year.  We are still tweaking the first week of vacation…  Thanks for your help in keeping your child’s file up to date and the contact information current.

There is one holiday in January that we observe…It is Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 20th

Again, we are slipping into old habits.  We have had some early arrivals lately and are reminding each of you that you have contracted hours with us for several reasons.  We are open from 6:45 AM to 5:30 PM.  Our work day is 10 hours and 45 minutes long for the “up person” and 10 hours for the second person.  It is also important that we know if you are coming early, late, or not coming at all for the day because we need to have the proper number of teachers to children ratio at all times.  It is a regulation that we need to follow…not just me being tough on you.  If you are interested in changing your times, please feel free to talk to us about it and we will see what we can do.  Otherwise, please respect the drop off and pick up times. In the mornings we are:  feeding the animals, letting the dog out to go potty, checking the safety of the space your children will be in (making sure it is free of trash or other materials not meant for children), putting up gates for the stairs and kitchen, sometimes plowing or snow blowing the driveway, shoveling and sanding/salting the sidewalks, etc.  We need you to respect our morning routine for the safety and well-being of your children.  I understand that we have been on holiday…Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day, but now is the time to get back on track for the New Year.

Finally…if you have read all of this: CONGRATULATIONS! J I have been tallying what you have paid in 2013 and would like to have each of you text me what you paid me to see if our numbers match.  I will compare these numbers and give you each a receipt to sign so that we can all apply them to our taxes.

Thank you and let’s hope 2014 is a great year for all of us!

What makes you smile?

Sometimes finding things to make us happy is closer than we think.  Just ask a preschooler.  The question that was asked this morning to Avery, Ella, Myles and Evan was, "What makes you smile?"  We would like to share their answers with you:

1.  My sandbox
2.  Drinking my drink
3.  Going on the slide and round-a-bout
4.  Duckies cuz they say quack quack
5.  Jokes
6.  Washing your hands
7.  Going on my extreme roller coaster
8.  Eating dinner
9.  Brushing your teeth

October Happenings!

Curriculum
What a way to welcome fall!  We sure have been busy with our new curriculum.  As you know, we have invested in a new program, called Mother Goose Time, which takes a different topic each month and focuses on different areas of it each week, geared toward preschoolers.  For example, this month, they learned all about the farm; different types of farms, planting seeds, who lives in a barn, what is stored in a barn, goats, cheese, milk, pigs, cows, horses and even mud!  The skills are reinforced through discussion, arts and crafts, dance and movement and stories.  The kids have also been enthusiastic about their new job chart!  Be sure to ask them what their jobs are, as they change each week.  We look forward to November to see what surprises are in store for us.

Since it was October, we talked a little about pumpkins.  Thank you to Ellas Daddy, Jesse, for donating some golf tees to hammer into our pumpkin.  They had a blast and didn't even know they were working on their gross motor and fine motor skills!  We even had some guests try it out.  As the kids were carving pumpkins at home, they came in with some great descriptions, such as gross, smooshy, slippery seeds and eeeeeeeewe!  This is a wonderful activity to do with your 3 and 4 year old children, so if they were too small this year, next year you can go carve a pumpkin and get totally messy.......don't forget the camera!

Mr. Dave
Our next Mr. Dave day is coming up, so please make sure you bring in $13 per child for the month of November.  Thank you so much for those of you who have cought up and those of you who have not, please do so.  Thanks again in advance.

Holidays
November has three days off.  They are November 11, November 28 and November 29.

In closing
October was a lot of fun and full of great learning opportunities.  We look forward to November when the leaves are continuing to fall, as does the temerature.  Please do not forget to dress your child in weather appropriate clothes so we can continue venturing outside, and please do not forget jackets!

Thank you,
Wendy and Jen
