January Happenings!

General updates

Can you believe we are already halfway through January?  This year has started off very busy and among all the craziness, we wanted to remind you of a few things.  First of all, with all these colds, we want to remind you to make sure your child is getting enough sleep at night, allowing an earlier bed time so they can get enough rest.  We have had a few children yawning at breakfast.

Our next reminder is about clothes.  We know the weather is warmer on some days and chillier on others, so please be mindful of this.  The ideal clothing during the winter for the temerature we keep our house at, is long pants and a long sleeve shirt.  The bulkier sweatshirts are great for the car rides, but are too bulky for during the other parts of the day because the are getting in food and paint.  We dance and do other large motor activities and the children get warm, but with a short sleeve shirt they get chilly when they take off the sweatshirt.  If your child comes in one, please make sure they have a long sleeve shirt on under it.....NOT a short sleeve shirt.  Thank you.

Third, we need our paperwork back.  Some of you have not returned the paperwork, therefore, you have not recieved the vacations and holidays list.  We have a vacation coming up, so please see Wendy with your finished paperwork.  If you have lost it or need a new holidays list, please see Wendy.  One of the reminders of that was that there is a rate increase beginniing February 10th, 2014.  The other one was about taxes.  We need to ensure that our numbers match for what you paid last year, so please contact Wendy this week.  Thank you.

Last but not least, when we ask for diapers, we would like an unopened package.  It is the easiest way for us to store diapers and when they are already opened, we need to ask for them sooner.  We really do not want to be pains, so please help us help you.

Winter Happenings!

There are many things we need to cover in this blog today…
So…let’s get started!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!  Jen and I wanted to take a moment to thank you for being a part of our childcare family.  We love each and every one of your children and are proud of each of their individual accomplishments throughout the year.  We know that you put your trust and faith in us and take that very seriously.

First, we would like to make sure that each child is ready for the weather. This means that we would like you to check your child’s box for long pants, long sleeve shirts and a sweatshirt for their hook if you feel they need it. Also, if your child wears boots to childcare, please make sure they have slippers or sneakers to wear indoors.  Be especially mindful of the sizing of everything as your children are growing like weeds!

We would also like to welcome Arianna and her family to our group of friends.  She will be attending on Monday, Thursday & Friday each week. Arianna is 2 years old and is a delightful child who is constantly observing the other children.  She is now talking to the other children and playing freely with them.  She has been attending since Christmas week and is enjoying her experience.  All of the children have welcomed her and are happy to see her each day that she is here.  Her parents’ names are Merrisa and Chris.  Please introduce yourself if you see them.

Next, we would like to welcome Summer and her family, who will begin next week on January 6th.  Her days will be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. She is three months old and is a darling little girl.  We are all very excited about her arrival.  Mom and Dad are Amy and Adam.  Again, introduce yourself when you see them.

Along with our new arrivals, we will have one child who will have her last day on February 7th.  We are very sad to see this family leave.  Ella has been here all of her three years and before her we had Jackson from three months of age until he entered kindergarten.  All totaled, we have had the joy of caring for this wonderful family for nearly 7 years.  Although it is sad to see them move on, it is the best decision for their family.  Mom’s workplace has changed making it difficult for drop off and pick up, because she has to go beyond work each day to childcare, then go back to work.  It was a very difficult decision for Elissa and Jesse to make.  We will miss you so much! We know that Ella will thrive in her new school and we will now be able to visit with them as friends!

Congratulations to Julie on her new job!!!  Julie’s old job was so demanding of her time…even in some evenings!  Now Avery and Boden will have mommy home a bit more and mom will be able to have some more quality time with her babies.

Congratulations to Melissa, Allin, Myles and Addison!  They are moving to Marlborough these next couple of weeks!  Enjoy your new home.  The children will stay here with us.

At this point, most of you have received a renewal packet which was handed out this week.  When you return this packet, we will hand out our vacations and holiday schedule for the New Year.  We are still tweaking the first week of vacation…  Thanks for your help in keeping your child’s file up to date and the contact information current.

There is one holiday in January that we observe…It is Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 20th

Again, we are slipping into old habits.  We have had some early arrivals lately and are reminding each of you that you have contracted hours with us for several reasons.  We are open from 6:45 AM to 5:30 PM.  Our work day is 10 hours and 45 minutes long for the “up person” and 10 hours for the second person.  It is also important that we know if you are coming early, late, or not coming at all for the day because we need to have the proper number of teachers to children ratio at all times.  It is a regulation that we need to follow…not just me being tough on you.  If you are interested in changing your times, please feel free to talk to us about it and we will see what we can do.  Otherwise, please respect the drop off and pick up times. In the mornings we are:  feeding the animals, letting the dog out to go potty, checking the safety of the space your children will be in (making sure it is free of trash or other materials not meant for children), putting up gates for the stairs and kitchen, sometimes plowing or snow blowing the driveway, shoveling and sanding/salting the sidewalks, etc.  We need you to respect our morning routine for the safety and well-being of your children.  I understand that we have been on holiday…Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day, but now is the time to get back on track for the New Year.

Finally…if you have read all of this: CONGRATULATIONS! J I have been tallying what you have paid in 2013 and would like to have each of you text me what you paid me to see if our numbers match.  I will compare these numbers and give you each a receipt to sign so that we can all apply them to our taxes.

Thank you and let’s hope 2014 is a great year for all of us!
